Puppet Theater Sampo is a professional puppet theater founded in 1977.
Sampo is a puppet theatre center open to everyone.
You can come with the whole family to spend time and enjoy a comfortable atmosphere, performances and other activities. There is always interesting things to see and do for children.
We also perform regularly in cultural centers and multi-purpose buildings around the Helsinki metropolitan area. Many of our performances can be invited to kindergartens, schools and various children’s and family events.
Puppet Theater Sampo’s group of authors and artists consists of diverse professionals in music, puppet theater and visual arts with solid experience in the field of art, as well as a strong desire to work for children’s culture. We want to do our best so that for every spectator, both child and adult, a visit to our theater will leave a good experience in their heart!
Our repertoire is rich and varied. The performances deal with themes of mutual interaction and caring that are important to both children and adults, through means of imagination, joy, and humor. Over the years, many of our performances have become beloved classics for our audience, which many come to see again and again from year to year.
Since its establishment, Puppet Theater Sampo’s performances have conveyed joy and wonderful experiences to viewers and listeners of all ages through songs, poems, stories, and musical puppet theater expression. Live music plays an essential part in Sampo’s performances. Since 1977, musicians have performed in our performances together with puppet actors and created memorable experiences between the arts, allready for over a million viewers. The songs heard in the performances have also become familiar to the general public through the numerous children’s records published by Puppet Theater Sampo.
Puppet theater Sampo sells literature, recordings and puppet theater equipment for use by homes, kindergartens, schools and theater enthusiasts.
The products have received both national and international attention and praise. Products and tickets can be purchased from the online store or the theater.
Since 2017, Sampo Puppet Theater has organized the annual SAMPO Puppet Theater Festival, which usually takes place at the turn of August-September. The festival’s own pages can be found at www.sampofestival.fi.
Puppet Theater Sampo has given up the office previously located on Ritarikatu.
Puppet Theatre Sampo is a member of Suomen Teatterit ry (Finnish theatres association), Suomen UNIMA ry (puppetry association), Suomen Assitej ry (children´s theatre association), Small Size Network and Suomen Lastenkulttuurikeskusten liitto (children´s culture centers association). SAMPO Festival is a member of Finland Festivals.
Puppet Theatre Sampo receives funding from the Ministry of Education and Culture and the City of Helsinki.
