In the foyer gallery of Puppet Theatre Sampo, you can explore exhibitions related to puppet theatre. There is a permanent exhibition of theatre puppets, Puppets from around the World.
In the foyer, there is also the Blue Gallery, which has changing illustration exhibitions. The gallery’s exhibitions are often related to puppetry in some way, but the gallery is open to a wide variety of artists!
Admission to exhibitions is free during theatre opening hours.
This exhibition is about the wonderful world of theatre puppets. The visitor can explore puppet traditions of different cultures and see puppets from around the globe from the 19th century to the present. Exhibition catalogue available in Finnish, Swedish, English, Russian and Italian.
Puppet Theatre Sampo Gallery
For seven years now, visual artist Matti Westerlund has responded to the Inktober challenge and drawn a new picture with ink every day during October. Now it’s time to display the best, funniest and most interesting pictures from among those more than 270 pictures.
Inktober (comes from the words ink+october) is an annual October art challenge. It encourages artists around the world to draw and create art with ink. The purpose is to promote creativity and develop skills. Inktober challenges you to regularly produce art and create a routine for drawing, because the idea of the art challenge is to draw inspired by a daily changing subject word.
Matti Westerlund’s ink drawings have gathered an audience of several thousand people and a solid following on social media every year. Now there is an opportunity to see a selection of original artworks with stories curated by the artist himself.
The exhibition is open Tue-Fri from 9:30 to 16:30, as well as in the evenings and weekends in connection with performances.
